Richard Dawkins, the Charles Simonyi of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University, is probably the main apologist for classical Darwinism at the moment. Intelligent, erudite and gifted with an attractive writing style, he has produced many books on evolution. He follows Charles Darwin closely, insisting that evolution has proceeded slowly over millions of years.
He is a passionate believer in atheism seeing natural selection and theism as incompatible. Natural selection has become for him the central organising principle of the universe and of his life; taking the place that God takes in the lives of theists. This may be the reason he can see absolutely nothing good in God and why he has taken off the mask of scientific objectivity to give him freedom to attack with more vigour God and His believers in ‘The God Delusion’.
There is an almost touching naivety about Richard Dawkins.......
